What is Succession Planning
“Succession
planning is the process of selecting and developing key talent to ensure
continuity of critical roles.”
Succession
planning is mainly focused on critical roles, which means that it does not
require a succession planning method for junior job roles, it is important for top-level
job roles. Because the junior level can be easily replaced other than top-level
roles. For some job roles organizations need specific talented people, to fill
the gap organization should build a talent pool. That can be developed internally
or by externally hired employees. So, the organization must ensure the smooth
flow of the business in the long term and short term.
Succession Planning and Talent
Management
The succession planning
process should be aligned with the talent management process. Talent management
focuses on the development of the employees on their career path but succession
planning focus on filling the vacancy of critical roles. If there is a proper
succession planning method critical role can be filled internally other than
recruiting external experts. It helps to motivate the internal workforce.
Importance of Succession
Planning
Organizations
can be facing suddenly the loss of top-level leaders by death or quitting the
job for another organization. So, to keep the organization smooth running in
the business succession planning is important.
To motivate the staff
To save money for recruiting
Ensure the smooth running of the business
Survive in an unexpected situation
Make future leaders
